Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone-operated Krishnapatnam Port has successfully carried out a specialised double-banking operation involving the simultaneous discharge of edible oil cargo, marking a major operational milestone for the port.

The operation was executed by MT AU Libra and MT Spica, with one vessel berthed alongside the other while both discharged cargo concurrently. The achievement highlights the port’s advanced marine capabilities, technical preparedness, and focus on operational efficiency.

Double-banking is a highly specialised marine operation that allows two vessels to conduct cargo operations simultaneously from a single berth arrangement. The process requires precise coordination, specialised infrastructure, stringent safety measures, and skilled manpower. Only a limited number of ports in India currently possess the capability to safely perform such operations.

According to the port management, the successful operation is expected to significantly improve berth utilisation, reduce vessel turnaround time, and ease congestion at the terminal. Faster discharge and departure also contribute to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions from vessels during port stay, supporting the port’s environmental and sustainability goals.

The development further strengthens Krishnapatnam Port’s position as a key hub for bulk liquid and edible oil cargo handling on India’s east coast. The port has been steadily enhancing its liquid cargo infrastructure with dedicated pipelines, mechanised handling systems, and advanced marine services to cater to growing trade demand.
