A leading think tank has warned that inadequate logistics infrastructure and supply chain inefficiencies are threatening Bangladesh’s trade competitiveness, calling for urgent upgrades across ports, transport networks and warehousing systems.

The report highlighted persistent bottlenecks including port congestion, high transportation costs, limited multimodal connectivity and outdated logistics processes that continue to impact export performance and industrial growth.

Industry analysts said Bangladesh’s rising manufacturing and export ambitions, particularly in garments and industrial goods, require faster cargo movement, modern storage infrastructure and improved customs and trade facilitation systems.

The think tank stressed that investments in digital logistics platforms, inland transport corridors, container handling capacity and integrated supply chain infrastructure would be critical for sustaining long-term economic competitiveness.

Bangladesh has been seeking to strengthen its position in global trade and manufacturing supply chains, but logistics challenges remain a key obstacle to improving efficiency, reducing costs and attracting greater foreign investment.
