CONCOR’s Inland Container Depot (ICDT), Tondiarpet, has demonstrated its cargo handling efficiency by successfully executing a large-scale direct rail-to-container stuffing operation involving 2,700 tonnes of rice meant for export to China.
The export cargo arrived at ICDT in a full rake comprising 42 BCN wagons loaded from Samalkot and Tanuku. In a seamless logistics operation, the rice was directly handled from the wagons and stuffed into 105 TEUs at the terminal, significantly reducing handling time and improving supply chain efficiency.
The containers were booked and customs-cleared at ICD Tondiarpet before being dispatched through Chennai Port for onward shipment to China. The operation highlights the growing role of ICD Tondiarpet as a key multimodal logistics hub, offering efficient rail connectivity and streamlined export facilitation. ICD Tondiarpet serves as an extended gateway of Chennai Port and has been developed to promote faster movement of export containers through rail-based logistics.
The successful handling of the rice export consignment underscores the terminal’s capability to manage bulk agricultural cargo through integrated rail and container logistics, supporting India’s export trade and enhancing cargo evacuation efficiency from the hinterland.
