A Marshall Islands-flagged LPG tanker, MV Symi, carrying around 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has successfully arrived at Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, in Gujarat’s Kachchh district after transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel crossed the Strait of Hormuz on May 13 amid heightened global scrutiny over maritime traffic movement through the key energy corridor linking the Persian Gulf with international shipping routes.

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, two LPG carrier vessels bound for India have safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies to the country despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Speaking during an inter-ministerial press briefing in New Delhi, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, confirmed that both LPG cargoes were being coordinated with Indian Oil Corporation to ensure secure passage through the region.

The development comes shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi held discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, reiterating Iran’s commitment to maintaining maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring safe commercial navigation for friendly nations.

The successful arrival of MV Symi highlights the continued resilience of regional maritime logistics and the importance of coordinated international efforts in safeguarding global energy supply chains.
