MatchLog, a container-reuse platform, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with STA Alliance, the commercial subsidiary of the Singapore Transport Association (STA), to accelerate digitalisation and sustainability across Singapore’s container logistics sector.

The partnership aims to transform the management of empty containers by promoting the widespread adoption of “street turns”, a process that enables empty containers to be reused directly between import and export trips without returning to depots. The initiative is expected to reduce congestion, improve operational efficiency, and lower carbon emissions.

Under the collaboration, MatchLog’s proprietary STinder technology platform will be integrated with STA Alliance’s extensive transport and logistics network. By directly matching import containers with export demand, the solution seeks to minimise empty container movements, cut unnecessary depot trips, enhance asset utilisation, and reduce the environmental footprint of container transport.

Commenting on the development, Manish Singh, Co-Founder and Region Head, South East Asia at MatchLog, said Singapore’s advanced logistics ecosystem makes it an ideal testbed for large-scale, data-driven container reuse. He added that partnering with STA Alliance would help shift container reuse from isolated initiatives to coordinated, system-level adoption across the industry.

The partnership is expected to deliver tangible benefits for trucking and logistics operators, including fuel and time savings, reduced port and road congestion, and improved visibility of container assets. It is also anticipated to create new value opportunities for STA members through better coordination and data-led operations.

Aligned with Singapore’s broader goals of digital transformation and logistics decarbonisation, the MoU provides a framework for joint programmes, pilot projects, and industry outreach, with the objective of enabling scalable adoption of container reuse solutions across the transport ecosystem.
