Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a time charter agreement with India’s GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) for the deployment of an LNG carrier, strengthening the logistics of liquefied natural gas supply for the country. Under the contract, MOL will provide the vessel for a fixed period, supporting GAIL’s import and transportation requirements amid rising domestic energy demand.

The time charter arrangement allows GAIL to secure reliable shipping capacity without the need for vessel ownership, ensuring steady supply of LNG for power generation, industrial use, and city gas distribution. MOL will manage vessel operations, crewing, and technical support, while GAIL oversees the cargo and scheduling.

Industry analysts noted that the agreement reflects India’s efforts to diversify and secure energy imports while highlighting MOL’s role as a key player in global LNG shipping. The deal is also part of broader trends in long-term LNG logistics contracts, which are increasingly critical for energy-importing nations to manage supply stability and cost efficiency.

Officials from both companies emphasized that the partnership will enhance operational reliability, optimize shipping schedules, and contribute to the expansion of India’s LNG infrastructure in line with growing energy requirements.
