Hapag-Lloyd has announced an increase in ocean freight tariff rates for cargo moving from India and Pakistan to Europe, citing changing market conditions and rising operational costs. The revised tariffs will apply to shipments across key European destinations and are expected to take effect from an upcoming sailing window, subject to applicable contracts and surcharges.

The rate hike comes amid persistent volatility in global shipping markets, with carriers facing higher costs linked to fuel, vessel operations, port charges, and network adjustments. Industry sources say demand on the India–Europe and Pakistan–Europe trade lanes has remained resilient in certain segments, prompting carriers to realign pricing to reflect capacity deployment and cost pressures.

Exporters and freight forwarders noted that the increase could impact pricing for commodities such as textiles, chemicals, engineering goods, and agricultural products, particularly for spot and short-term contract cargo. Some shippers are expected to reassess shipment timing and routing options to manage higher logistics costs.

Hapag-Lloyd said the tariff adjustment is part of its ongoing efforts to maintain service reliability and network efficiency. Analysts added that further rate movements on the corridor will depend on cargo demand trends, capacity management by carriers, and broader developments in global trade and shipping markets.
