India’s largest container gateway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, has initiated a series of measures to minimise disruptions to cargo movement between India and the Middle East amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting key maritime routes.
The port authority said it is working closely with shipping lines, terminal operators and logistics stakeholders to ensure the smooth handling of containers and reduce delays for exporters and importers impacted by rerouted vessels and schedule disruptions.
Officials noted that the port is facilitating faster vessel turnaround, prioritising time-sensitive cargo and strengthening coordination with customs and terminal operators. Additional yard planning and flexible berthing arrangements are also being implemented to manage fluctuations in vessel arrivals.
Nhava Sheva is India’s busiest container port, handling a significant share of the country’s trade with Gulf nations. The current disruption in shipping routes linking the Middle East has led several global carriers to adjust schedules, creating uncertainty for cargo flows across the region.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the port’s proactive approach, stating that improved coordination and operational flexibility will help reduce congestion risks and support exporters relying on Middle East markets.
The port authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining supply chain stability and ensuring that cargo movement continues with minimal disruption despite the evolving regional situation.
