The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recorded a significant rise in its freight unloading performance, maintaining its upward momentum through October 2025. The zone unloaded 1,035 freight-carrying rakes during the month, marking a 12.38% increase compared to 921 rakes handled in October last year.

Throughout the month, NFR facilitated seamless transportation and unloading of a broad spectrum of essential commodities, including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers, and various other goods. These consignments were efficiently managed across multiple goods sheds within the railway’s jurisdiction.

A major portion of the freight movement catered to the northeastern states. Assam led the region with 560 rakes unloaded, of which 269 carried essential commodities. Other states in the region also recorded steady cargo movement, with Tripura unloading 91 rakes, Nagaland 21, Arunachal Pradesh 9, Manipur 22, Meghalaya 1, and Mizoram 11.

Beyond the Northeast, NFR’s jurisdiction also covers parts of eastern India. In October 2025, West Bengal handled 170 rakes, while Bihar unloaded 150, comprising both essential and non-essential commodities.

The uninterrupted flow of essential goods continues to play a crucial role in supporting daily requirements and bolstering economic activity across the region. NFR officials noted that continuous monitoring and coordinated efforts at all levels have helped reduce turnaround time and further improve unloading efficiency.
