Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway) has witnessed a notable increase in freight unloading, contributing to the continuous supply of essential and other commodities across the region. In February 2024 alone, 1238 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded, marking a significant rise of over 7.8% compared to the same period in the previous year.
During the fiscal year from April 2023 to February 2024, a total of 12750 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded within the jurisdiction of N.F. Railway, showcasing the robustness of the freight transportation network.
The railway has been instrumental in transporting a diverse range of goods, including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, fertilizer, cement, coal, automobiles, containers, and other items . These goods are unloaded at various goods sheds within N.F. Railway’s jurisdiction, ensuring their swift distribution to different destinations.
In February 2024, a total of 725 freight-carrying trains were unloaded in Assam, with 397 of them carrying essential commodities. Additionally, 79 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 19 in Nagaland, 2 in Manipur, 7 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 9 in Mizoram. Furthermore, 223 freight rakes in West Bengal and 174 in Bihar were also unloaded during the same month within N.F. Railway’s jurisdiction.
The expedited execution of doubling and electrification works at crucial sections over N.F. Railway has resulted in enhanced inward and outward movement of freight traffic. This has not only facilitated the swift transportation of essential and other commodities but has also spurred growth in freight unloading activities.
The surge in freight unloading underscores N.F. Railway’s commitment to maintaining a seamless supply chain network, vital for sustaining the region’s economic activities and meeting the needs of the people.
