    A Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting was held at Le Meridien, Coimbatore, to review India–US trade relations and evaluate their impact on key sectors of the Indian economy. The meeting formed part of the Committee’s broader engagement with industry stakeholders across the country to gather sector-specific inputs and ground-level perspectives.

    The session was attended by Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), along with other senior industry leaders and dignitaries. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities arising from bilateral trade dynamics, with particular emphasis on the textile and apparel sector, a major contributor to India’s exports and employment.

    During the interaction, industry representatives highlighted concerns related to tariff structures, market access, competitiveness, and the need for policy support to strengthen India’s export ecosystem amid evolving global trade conditions. The Parliamentary Committee sought feedback on measures required to enhance trade facilitation, improve ease of doing business, and safeguard the interests of Indian exporters in the U.S. market.

    Dr. A. Sakthivel underscored the importance of constructive engagement between India and the United States to address trade barriers and promote sustainable growth for export-oriented sectors. He emphasized the role of continued policy dialogue and strategic interventions to ensure long-term resilience and global competitiveness of Indian industries .

    The meeting concluded with an exchange of insights that will contribute to the Committee’s assessment and recommendations aimed at strengthening India’s trade framework and fostering mutually beneficial economic relations with the United States.
