Pilbara Ports Authority is assessing the extent of damage across its key facilities following the passage of a powerful cyclone along Western Australia’s coast, raising concerns over potential disruptions to bulk exports.

Preliminary inspections are underway at major port locations, including Port Hedland, Dampier, and Ashburton, which play a crucial role in handling iron ore, LNG, and other resource shipments. Early reports suggest infrastructure checks are focused on berths, navigation channels, and cargo handling equipment.

Authorities have temporarily restricted vessel movements in affected areas as safety assessments continue. Shipping schedules may face delays depending on the severity of the damage and the time required to restore full operational capacity.

Pilbara Ports stated that safeguarding personnel and ensuring infrastructure integrity remain top priorities, with teams working to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.

The Pilbara region is a key export hub for Australia’s mining sector, and any prolonged disruption could impact global commodity supply chains, particularly iron ore flows to Asia.
