The Port of Gdańsk has recorded over 624,000 TEUs handled in the opening months of the year — a 17 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This growth is attributed to ongoing infrastructure development and the expansion of ocean services operated by some of the world’s largest containerships.
In Q1 2025, the Port of Gdańsk handled 18.4 million tonnes of goods, a 2 per cent increase compared to last year despite global economic challenges. The port remains stable.
Notably, ore handling surged by 560 per cent, driven by strong demand for industrial raw materials, particularly iron ore for the steel industry in Poland and neighboring countries.
Wood handling also rose by 74 per cent, from 7,600 to 13,200 tonnes, mainly from Latvia, shipped to Scandinavia and Asia.
Dorota Pyć, President of the Port of Gdańsk, said: “Over the last 20 years, infrastructure investments in the Port of Gdańsk have boosted terminal capacity and improved integration with national and international transport, enhancing efficiency and competitiveness.
“Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, we maintain high volumes, develop new partnerships, and strengthen our role as a logistics gateway for Central and Eastern Europe. We remain pragmatic and prepare for further growth.”
In March, the Port of Gdańsk announced a record net profit of around PLN 264 million ($68 million) after serving 3,559 commercial seagoing vessels and handling 77.4 million tonnes of cargo.
