Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) has taken delivery of a further batch of ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, marking a key milestone as the operator gears up for the full launch of its highly anticipated Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port.

The newly arrived cranes bring Terminal D’s handling equipment roster to 17 STS cranes and 43 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, significantly bolstering the facility’s capacity and operational readiness. Once fully commissioned, the expanded fleet will enable the terminal to handle up to 3.5 million TEUs annually, positioning it among the region’s most capable container hubs.

Terminal D is being rolled out as part of HPT’s wider growth strategy in Thailand. Last month, the company also celebrated a key achievement — handling over 50 million TEUs since operations began at Laem Chabang — underscoring its role as a major player in Southeast Asia’s trade and logistics network.

With the RTG fleet now largely in place and the infrastructure nearing completion, Terminal D is on track to begin full operations early this year, supporting faster vessel turnaround times and higher throughput for shipping lines and cargo owners.

The addition of advanced quay cranes and supporting equipment reflects HPT’s continued investment in modernizing port infrastructure and boosting competitiveness in the global container market.
