The valedictory function of the Skill Development Programmes conducted by the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS) under the Port’s CSR initiative was held at VOC Port on 26 November 2025. Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, presided over the event and distributed course completion certificates to successful trainees of the EXIM & Warehouse Executive, Welder, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programmes. He was joined by Shri Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, along with senior port officers.

The programme continues to deliver strong, measurable outcomes, with encouraging placement results that highlight growing industry demand. Notably, all 14 trainees from the Welder and CNC Operator batch secured employment—marking a 100% placement rate. Many other candidates from various courses have also been successfully placed in major multinational companies. The initiative is being recognised as a powerful driver of career transformation, economic upliftment, and long-term community development.

As part of its commitment to empowering local youth with industry-ready skills, VOC Port has been organising multiple skilling programmes through CEMS. The centre currently offers seven specialised vocational courses—Domestic Data Entry Operator, Exim Executive, Warehouse Executive, Welder, CNC Operator, Supply Chain Executive, and Courier Associate Operations—catering to diverse industrial sectors and enhancing employability.

Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit urged trainees to utilise the skills and opportunities gained through the programme to build rewarding careers. He also emphasised the importance of gender equality and encouraged greater participation of women in skill development initiatives.

Deputy Chairperson Shri Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, motivated the trainees to continuously upgrade their skills and explore new avenues, reinforcing the Port’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment and industry-focused learning.
