A total of 5,447 tonnes of rice were imported from India through the Hili Land Port in Dinajpur on Sunday.

A total of 126 trucks carrying the rice entered Bangladesh from India through  the Hili land port on Sunday and the amount of rice imports will increase  further in the future, said Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, president of Hili Land Port Import-Exporters Association, this afternoon.

The import-export activities with India were closed at the land port from March 29 to April 5 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The government had set the deadline for rice import permission until April 6.

Ministry of Food has extended the period of rice import permission to April 15.

“A huge amount of goods were imported through the port yesterday. A total of 157 trucks carrying various types of goods entered Bangladesh through the port on the day,” Shilpi added.
