Amazon Seller Services, the marketplace arm of Amazon Inc., has leased 560,000 sq. ft of warehousing space in West Bengal’s Hooghly district as part of its ongoing expansion of fulfilment infrastructure across India.
The upcoming facility, which will serve as a fulfilment centre (FC), has been pre-leased from Nahar Industrial Enterprises Ltd, according to documents sourced from real estate analytics platform Propstack. The property handover is expected between January and June 2026, with the lease commencing on June 1, 2026. The agreement spans 20 years.
Amazon will pay a monthly rent of about Rs 12.6 million, subject to escalations every three years. Over the full term, the company’s financial outlay is projected to cross Rs 4 billion.
Industry experts view the deal as a strategic move aimed at bolstering Amazon’s logistics network beyond metro cities.
“This lease in Hooghly is among several high-value warehousing deals that highlight confidence in India’s organised logistics sector, fuelled by e-commerce growth,” said Raja Seetharaman, co-founder of Propstack.
The Hooghly lease follows Amazon India’s June announcement of a Rs 20 billion investment to strengthen operational infrastructure, improve fulfilment speed, and deploy technological upgrades. The expansion comes amid intensifying competition with Flipkart and quick-commerce platforms as consumer demand for faster deliveries grows.
Amazon has been steadily scaling up in non-metro locations, recently leasing warehousing facilities in Tiruvallur, Krishnagiri, Visakhapatnam, and Hubballi. The company also opened 12 new fulfilment centres and expanded six existing ones last week, reinforcing its aggressive logistics push.
“Amazon’s expansion in Hooghly and similar cities underscores its long-term commitment to managing surging order volumes and improving delivery timelines,” Seetharaman added.
