    Konecranes has secured an order for 30 battery-powered Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes for a new Indian container terminal, marking a milestone in green port technology.

    The order was booked in Q3 2025, with delivery scheduled for Q1 2027. The new greenfield terminal is designed to set new benchmarks for container handling efficiency in India.

    The 30 Konecranes RTGs will form the backbone of yard operations and support the terminal’s commitment to sustainable performance.

    Each crane will feature Konecranes’ E-Hybrid technology, configured for fully electric operation with zero tailpipe emissions.

    The terminal has selected a busbar-and-battery setup, with the RTGs powered entirely by onboard battery packs that enable continued operation even during grid outages.

    The batteries are charged dynamically through the busbar supply as required during operation.

    Konecranes’ E-Hybrid system reduces peak power demand to just 60 kilowatts (kW) per RTG, compared with up to 400 kW for traditional electric models.

    This lowers the load on local grids and reduces capital expenditure on substations.

    Shyam Pathak, Sales Director, Konecranes, Port Solutions, said: “This greenfield project shows how far Konecranes E-Hybrid technology has come. We’re demonstrating to the wider container handling industry that large terminals can now launch with fully electric operations, even if their grid supply is unreliable. This is a new reference point for terminal design and investment in Ecolifting.”

    Ecolifting is Konecranes’ vision to increase its “handprint” – the positive environmental impact achieved through its products and services – while helping customers reduce their carbon footprint.
