Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is in discussions with international shipping lines to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its upcoming LNG bunkering facility, as part of efforts to expand clean fuel availability for maritime operations.

Officials said the talks aim to establish long-term supply arrangements with global shipping operators, positioning BPCL’s facility as a strategic hub for LNG bunkering in India. The move supports the company’s focus on low-carbon marine fuel solutions and India’s broader objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the shipping sector.

The new LNG bunkering terminal, under development at a key port location, is expected to cater to coastal and international vessels, offering an alternative to conventional marine fuels. Industry analysts noted that growing adoption of LNG in shipping aligns with global decarbonisation trends and provides Indian ports a competitive advantage in attracting environmentally compliant vessels.

BPCL is also exploring partnerships for supply chain integration, storage, and vessel fueling services, ensuring seamless operations once the facility becomes operational. Company sources emphasized that LNG availability will not only enhance India’s maritime energy security but also support the country’s transition toward cleaner fuels in transport and logistics.

The facility is expected to be commissioned in the near term, with BPCL aiming to leverage its technical expertise, port infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to meet increasing LNG demand from domestic and international shipping operators.
