Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced an expansion of its Australia–New Zealand Wallaby service with the addition of Port Chalmers (Dunedin, New Zealand) to the regular port rotation.

The enhanced Wallaby loop will now include calls at key Australasian and Asian gateways as part of a broader regional coverage strategy. The service is scheduled to be operated by nine vessels of approximately 4,000 TEU capacity, strengthening network connections across South Pacific trades.

Under the updated rotation, the Wallaby service will call at ports including Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Bluff, Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Napier, Wellington, followed by return legs via Melbourne, Brisbane and major Chinese hubs including Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Yantian), Xiamen, Shanghai and Ningbo before concluding back in Sydney.

The inclusion of Port Chalmers is expected to boost cargo connectivity for exporters and importers in the South Island of New Zealand, providing more direct access to MSC’s Oceania and North Asia network.
