Singapore-based container carrier Pacific International Lines (PIL) has marked the debut of its LNG-powered vessel Kota Odyssey with a maiden call at the Port of Aqaba, underscoring the company’s push toward greener shipping operations.

The arrival of the dual-fuel containership represents a milestone in PIL’s fleet renewal program, which focuses on enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), Kota Odyssey is designed to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions, sulfur oxides and particulate matter compared to conventional marine fuel-powered vessels.

Port authorities in Aqaba welcomed the vessel’s first call, highlighting the growing importance of environmentally sustainable shipping solutions in the region. The deployment of LNG-powered ships is seen as a key step toward supporting global decarbonization goals and aligning with evolving international maritime regulations.

The vessel is expected to operate on regional and long-haul trade routes, offering improved energy performance and lower environmental impact. LNG propulsion technology not only reduces emissions but also positions carriers to comply with tightening environmental standards set by global maritime bodies.

PIL stated that the introduction of Kota Odyssey reflects its long-term commitment to sustainable shipping and fleet modernization. The company has been investing in next-generation vessels and digital technologies to optimize operational efficiency and enhance service reliability across its network.

The maiden call at Aqaba signals strengthening trade connectivity between Asia and the Middle East, while reinforcing the port’s capability to handle advanced, environmentally friendly vessels as the maritime industry transitions toward cleaner fuels.
