Regional container carrier Akkon Lines has launched a new shuttle service connecting key ports in Bulgaria as part of efforts to strengthen short-sea cargo connectivity across the Black Sea region.

The newly introduced Bulgaria shuttle is designed to support growing trade flows and provide more frequent feeder connections between regional ports and larger transshipment hubs. The service is expected to facilitate the movement of containerised cargo including industrial goods, agricultural products and general merchandise.

Industry sources said the shuttle will improve schedule reliability and reduce transit times for shippers moving cargo within the Black Sea network. By offering a dedicated short-sea link, Akkon Lines aims to enhance regional logistics options for exporters and importers that rely on feeder services to connect with major global shipping routes.

The service is also expected to support increasing container volumes moving through Bulgaria’s main maritime gateways, including Port of Varna and Port of Burgas. These ports play a vital role in the country’s maritime trade and serve as important nodes linking Eastern Europe with markets across the Mediterranean and beyond.

Short-sea shipping has been gaining prominence in recent years as logistics providers seek efficient alternatives to congested land routes and longer ocean voyages. Services such as the Bulgaria shuttle can help streamline cargo distribution within regional supply chains while improving access to international markets.

With the launch of the new route, Akkon Lines continues to expand its presence in the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean shipping corridors, targeting opportunities in regional feeder and short-haul container services. Industry observers note that the move reflects broader efforts by smaller carriers to strengthen niche networks and respond to evolving trade patterns in the region.
