Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a major logistics milestone, dispatching 1 lakh vehicles from its in-plant automobile railway siding at the Manesar facility since operations began in June 2025.

The achievement underscores the company’s increasing reliance on rail-based vehicle transportation to enhance efficiency while reducing environmental impact. According to the company, this shift has helped avoid an estimated 16,800 metric tonnes of CO₂e emissions, supporting greener supply chain operations.

The Manesar facility, recognized as India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding, plays a central role in Maruti Suzuki’s logistics strategy. It is also the second PM GatiShakti-linked in-plant terminal for the company, following its Gujarat siding. From this hub, vehicles are distributed to 380 cities via 17 hubs, using a dedicated hub-and-spoke model.

Popular models including Alto, WagonR, Brezza, Dzire, Ertiga, Celerio, XL6, Eeco, and Super Carry—manufactured at Gurugram and Manesar—have been transported through more than 500 railway rakes since the siding became operational.

Speaking on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, said the facility was inaugurated in June 2025 by Ashwini Vaishnaw and Nayab Singh Saini, and has rapidly scaled operations within just nine months.

“At full capacity, the Manesar siding can dispatch up to 450,000 vehicles annually, helping reduce carbon footprint and ease road congestion,” he noted.

Maruti Suzuki has been steadily expanding its rail logistics footprint. In CY 2025, the company dispatched a record 5.85 lakh vehicles via rail, with rail’s share in outbound logistics rising sharply from 5% in 2016 to 26% in 2025. The company now aims to increase this share further to 35% by FY 2030-31.

A pioneer in rail-based automobile logistics, Maruti Suzuki became the first automaker in India to secure an Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator (AFTO) license in 2013. Since FY 2014-15, it has transported over 29.5 lakh vehicles by rail.

The company’s green logistics initiatives align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible operations.
