ONE is reportedly set to place an order for six LNG-powered containerships as the carrier accelerates efforts to modernise its fleet and reduce carbon emissions in line with global decarbonisation targets.

Industry reports said the vessels are expected to be built at Asian shipyards and will feature dual-fuel engines capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as conventional marine fuels. The ships are likely to be deployed on major long-haul trade routes where demand for environmentally compliant tonnage is increasing.

The reported order reflects the growing shift among global container lines toward alternative fuels as stricter environmental regulations come into force across the maritime sector. LNG-powered vessels are being adopted by carriers as a transitional solution to lower greenhouse gas emissions and meet tightening International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.

Shipping analysts said investment in new-generation fuel-efficient ships is also being driven by customer demand for greener logistics solutions and the need to improve operational efficiency amid volatile fuel costs. Several major container carriers have recently expanded orders for LNG and methanol-capable vessels as part of long-term sustainability strategies.
