India’s exports to West Asia stabilised in June, signalling an improvement in trade flows after recent disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions in the region, according to the Commerce Secretary. The recovery reflects the resilience of Indian exporters and the gradual normalisation of shipping and logistics operations across key trade routes.

Trade with West Asian markets had faced challenges in recent months due to heightened regional tensions, which affected maritime transport, increased freight and insurance costs, and led to delays in cargo movement. Despite these pressures, export shipments recovered during June as supply chains adapted and transportation services became more predictable.

The Commerce Secretary noted that export performance to the region had evened out during the month, indicating that temporary disruptions had eased and commercial activity had largely returned to normal. Key export categories to West Asia include engineering goods, petroleum products, food and agricultural commodities, pharmaceuticals, textiles, chemicals, machinery, and consumer goods.

West Asia remains one of India’s most important export destinations, supported by strong economic ties with countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. The region is also a significant source of India’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, making stable trade relations strategically important for both economies.

Government officials continue to closely monitor geopolitical developments and their potential impact on trade and shipping. Measures introduced in recent months to support exporters, including enhanced logistics coordination and engagement with industry stakeholders, have helped minimise disruptions and maintain the flow of goods.

Looking ahead, India’s export outlook to West Asia is expected to remain positive, supported by strong bilateral trade relationships, growing demand for Indian products, and improving supply chain resilience. Continued stability in regional shipping routes and logistics networks will be crucial for sustaining export growth and strengthening India’s trade performance in the coming months.
