Bureau Veritas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority to support the development of sustainable port infrastructure and green maritime initiatives, marking a significant step in India’s maritime decarbonisation efforts.
The MoU was exchanged during a high-level ceremony held in Tuticorin in the presence of Santosh Kumar Sarangi, along with senior port officials and industry stakeholders.
Under the partnership, Bureau Veritas will assist VOC Port Authority in achieving Green Port Certification, conducting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions verification, and implementing sustainability measures aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of port operations. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the port’s efforts to align with national and global sustainability goals while enhancing operational efficiency and environmental performance.
The initiative reflects the growing focus of Indian ports on adopting cleaner technologies, improving energy efficiency, and supporting the maritime sector’s transition towards a low-carbon future. It also reinforces Bureau Veritas’ commitment to providing technical expertise and assurance services that enable sustainable development across the maritime and port industries.
Officials said the partnership will facilitate the adoption of best practices in environmental management and help accelerate VOC Port Authority’s journey towards becoming a greener and more sustainable port, contributing to India’s broader ambitions for sustainable maritime growth.
