China’s shipbuilding industry widened its grip on the global market in 2025, posting double-digit growth in completions and a record pipeline of future work, according to figures released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Shipyards delivered 53.69m dwt over the year, up 11.4% from 2024 and equal to 56.1% of worldwide output by tonnage.
Newbuilding contracts reached 107.82m dwt, capturing 69% of the global market.
Outstanding orders climbed to 274.42m dwt by the end of December, a 31.5% year-on-year increase and 66.8% of the world orderbook.
The data mark the 16th consecutive year China has led all three core shipbuilding indicators.
