HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has reported a dramatic turnaround in financial performance for 2025, with operating profit soaring by 824.8 % to KRW 67.0 billion compared with the previous year, far exceeding market expectations.
The South Korean shipbuilder also recorded revenue of KRW 1.9997 trillion, up about 6 % year-on-year, while net profit surged nearly 885 % to KRW 51.4 billion, marking a significant recovery after several challenging years.
Recovery Driven by High-Value and Green Vessel Orders
The company attributed the rebound to a strategic focus on special-purpose and eco-friendly commercial vessels, which helped boost profit margins in 2025. Shipbuilding revenue rebounded strongly, accounting for nearly half of HJSC’s total revenue, up from just 18 % in 2022.
HJSC’s portfolio includes methanol-fueled and LNG-powered container ships, as well as LNG bunkering vessels, aligning with rising global demand for environmentally sustainable shipping solutions under stricter IMO emissions standards.
Robust Order Book and Defense Sector Growth
In addition to the commercial segment, HJSC’s construction division performed well, securing orders worth KRW 2.5 trillion in 2025, surpassing its target.
The company is also expanding its presence in defense shipbuilding, including contracts for advanced patrol craft and specialized vessels for the Korea Coast Guard and Navy, and has entered the U.S. Navy MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) market—seen as a new growth opportunity.
Outlook
With improving market conditions and strong demand for green and high-value ships, HJSC expects its performance momentum to continue in 2026, focusing on profitability and competitive differentiation through advanced technologies.
