CMA CGM marked the official inauguration of the Puerto Antioquia terminal with the arrival of the CMA CGM FIORDLAND, becoming one of the first large container vessels to call at the newly developed Colombian port facility.

The milestone call signals the operational launch of Puerto Antioquia, a strategic project designed to strengthen Colombia’s maritime connectivity and reduce logistics bottlenecks along the country’s Caribbean coast. The terminal is expected to play a key role in facilitating containerised trade, particularly for agricultural exports, manufactured goods, and regional imports.

Equipped with modern quay cranes, expanded container yards, and advanced cargo-handling systems, Puerto Antioquia aims to enhance vessel turnaround times and improve overall port efficiency. The facility is also positioned to handle larger ships, aligning with global fleet trends toward higher-capacity container vessels.

CMA CGM highlighted that the new terminal will provide improved service options for customers in Colombia’s Antioquia region, offering shorter inland transport distances and enhanced supply chain reliability. The development is expected to support exporters of products such as bananas, coffee, and other perishables by providing more direct maritime access to international markets.

Industry observers view the launch as a significant boost to Colombia’s port infrastructure, increasing competition and capacity in the region. With the successful inaugural call of the CMA CGM FIORDLAND, Puerto Antioquia begins operations with ambitions to become a key gateway for trade flows between Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia.
