CMA CGM reported strong second-quarter shipping performance, supported by resilient container volumes, improved freight market conditions, and continued demand across major trade routes. However, the group’s overall results were tempered by profitability challenges at its logistics subsidiary, CEVA Logistics, where margin pressures continued to weigh on earnings.

The French shipping and logistics group benefited from steady cargo demand and disciplined capacity management during the quarter, helping its maritime division deliver higher revenues and improved operating performance. Shipping operations remained the primary contributor to the group’s financial results as global container markets showed greater stability compared with the previous year.

In contrast, CEVA Logistics faced a more challenging operating environment. Softer freight forwarding markets, intense competition, pricing pressure, and rising operating costs affected margins despite stable business volumes. The logistics unit continued to focus on cost optimisation, operational efficiency, and expanding value-added services to improve profitability.

CMA CGM said it remains committed to strengthening CEVA’s long-term performance through continued investments in digitalisation, supply chain solutions, contract logistics, and strategic acquisitions. The company views its integrated shipping and logistics model as a key competitive advantage, enabling it to provide end-to-end transport and supply chain services to customers worldwide.

Looking ahead, the group expects global trade conditions to remain influenced by geopolitical tensions, evolving supply chains, and economic uncertainty. While the shipping business is expected to remain resilient, CMA CGM will continue working to enhance CEVA’s margins and operational efficiency, positioning the logistics arm for sustainable long-term growth alongside its core maritime operations.
