Greek owner Costamare has continued its focus on larger tonnage in the dry bulk sector by adding two secondhand capes.

The New York-listed company confirmed Splash reports it had picked up the 2012-built 181,415 dwt Frontier Unity and also revealed buying the 179,895 dwt Lowlands Prosperity and taking its capesize fleet to five vessels with an average age of about 12 years.

Both ships will be delivered in the second quarter from Japan’s Nissen Kaiun for $35m and Cobelfret for $30.7m with a charter attached, respectively, according to S&P databases. The duo will follow the 2011-built 180,643 dwt Iron Miracle that joined Costamare’s fleet earlier this year and exit of the 2011-built handy Adventure, which Costamare agreed to sell in the first quarter, bringing its divestment of smaller ageing bulkers to 10 vessels.

The Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos-led company entered the dry sector in 2021 and today owns 39 bulkers on a fully delivered basis with a capacity of about 2.9m dwt, but it also has a 54-strong trading platform consisting of newcastlemaxes, capes and kamsarmaxes, in addition to a fleet of 68 containerships.
