DP World has strengthened its operational capabilities at Jeddah Islamic Port with the addition of three new quay cranes, marking another milestone in the terminal’s ongoing transformation.
The semi-automated cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 65 tonnes, are designed to handle some of the world’s largest container vessels with enhanced safety and efficiency. This latest upgrade reinforces the terminal’s ability to manage growing cargo volumes while maintaining high service reliability.
The investment forms part of DP World’s broader $800 million modernisation programme at the port. The initiative has already doubled the terminal’s annual handling capacity from 1.8 million TEUs to 4 million TEUs, with plans underway to further scale capacity to 5 million TEUs as additional ship-to-shore equipment is deployed in line with rising demand.
Beyond capacity expansion, DP World has also enhanced its freight forwarding footprint across Saudi Arabia over the past year. This has significantly improved inland connectivity and enabled more integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions across the Kingdom.
The latest infrastructure upgrades come at a time of evolving global trade dynamics and regional uncertainty, underlining the importance of resilient port infrastructure. DP World’s continued investments are aligned with Saudi Arabia’s vision to establish itself as a leading global logistics hub.
