DP World has reduced vessel discharge time at Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam Port by 90%, marking a significant improvement in operational efficiency and strengthening the port’s position as a key maritime gateway for East Africa.

The dramatic reduction in cargo handling time follows the implementation of advanced terminal management systems, streamlined operational processes, and investments in modern port equipment. Faster vessel turnaround is expected to ease congestion, lower logistics costs, and improve supply chain reliability for importers and exporters.

Dar es Salaam Port serves as a critical trade hub for Tanzania and several landlocked neighbouring countries, including Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Enhanced efficiency at the port is expected to accelerate cargo movement across the region and support growing trade volumes.

The operational improvements are part of DP World’s broader strategy to modernise port infrastructure and enhance connectivity across global trade corridors. By increasing productivity and reducing waiting times, the company aims to strengthen Dar es Salaam’s competitiveness as a preferred gateway for regional and international cargo.

The achievement underscores the role of technology, infrastructure investment, and operational excellence in improving port performance and supporting economic growth through more efficient maritime logistics.
