A pre-event roadshow will be organized by the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways and the Inland Waterways Authority of India in Guwahati on August 31 aiming at engaging with all the stakeholders of the maritime sector and inland waterways industry, paving the way for the highly anticipated third Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS). The event will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, along with ministers from the Northeastern states.
On the eve of the roadshow, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, said, “The immense potential of Northeast India along with our neighbouring countries is a huge opportunity that can be explored to propel growth and development. This roadshow is aimed at unlocking the potential of the waterways sector in the Northeast as well as avenues in the maritime sector for the growth of the region. As we meet on a common platform, we will be able to discuss, exchange, and examine possibilities from using waterways to various aspects of the maritime sector, realizing the potential power of India’s engine of growth, the Northeast.”
Sonowal further added, “Inspired by the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the Ministry is organizing the GMIS from October 17 to 19, 2023, at Bharat Mandapam. With the theme ‘Connect, Collaborate, and Create,’ the summit aims to foster a platform for global and domestic stakeholders to explore and harness the immense potential of the maritime sector. I am confident that the discussions and collaborations at this event will pave the way for a successful Global Maritime India Summit 2023.”
Apart from the representatives from each state in the northeast, the meeting is likely to be attended by foreign delegates from Bhutan and Bangladesh. The event is aimed at underscoring the role of inland waterways in exploring possibilities in the maritime sector and engaging in comprehensive dialogues on utilizing waterways for regional growth and equipping regions access to maritime infrastructure, trade, and development. As the maritime world gears up for the Global Maritime India Summit 2023, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways invites all interested parties to join the Guwahati roadshow and become a part of this transformative journey towards a more connected and collaborative maritime future, stated a press release.
