In a landmark achievement for India’s eastern maritime gateway, Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) has crossed the 2 lakh TEUs mark in FY 2025–26, setting a new operational benchmark in its history. The milestone, achieved on February 26, 2026, marks the first time since its inception in 1977 that the dock complex has handled over 200,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in a single financial year.

The achievement signals a strong resurgence in container traffic at HDC and reflects the growing trade momentum in eastern and northeastern India. It also underscores the increasing confidence of EXIM and domestic trade stakeholders in HDC’s infrastructure, efficiency, and connectivity.

Officials said the record throughput is the outcome of sustained and coordinated efforts among multiple stakeholders. The Terminal Operator, Shipping Lines, Customs authorities, Railway authorities, Container Freight Station (CFS) operators, and the entire trade fraternity—covering both EXIM and domestic segments—played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone. Their seamless collaboration ensured smoother vessel operations, faster cargo evacuation, improved documentation processes, and enhanced hinterland connectivity.

Industry observers note that HDC’s performance is particularly significant given the competitive landscape of container ports on India’s east coast. Strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, optimize berth productivity, and strengthen rail and road connectivity have contributed to the steady growth in volumes during the current financial year.

The crossing of the 2 lakh TEUs mark is more than just a statistical accomplishment—it represents a structural shift in HDC’s growth trajectory. The milestone reflects renewed trade confidence, improved service reliability, and the dock complex’s evolving role as a critical logistics hub serving West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and the Northeast region.

With this achievement, HDC has not merely crossed a volume threshold but has effectively reset its performance benchmark. As FY 2025–26 progresses, stakeholders remain optimistic about further growth in container traffic, positioning HDC as an increasingly competitive and resilient maritime gateway in eastern India.

The historic milestone stands as a bold statement of growth, grit, and collaborative success—heralding a new chapter in the journey of Haldia Dock Complex.
