India is seeking logistical and trade support from Oman to safeguard nearly $11.8 billion worth of food exports to West Asia amid rising geopolitical tensions and shipping disruptions in the Gulf region.

Officials and industry sources said India is exploring alternative trade and transshipment arrangements through Omani ports to ensure uninterrupted movement of agricultural products, processed food, rice, sugar, spices and other essential commodities to key West Asian markets. The initiative comes as security concerns and operational risks continue to affect shipping routes linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman is being viewed as a strategic logistics hub because of its location outside the Strait of Hormuz and its established maritime connectivity with Gulf and international trade routes. Analysts said stronger cooperation with Oman could help Indian exporters reduce transit risks, maintain delivery schedules and avoid higher freight and insurance costs.

The move highlights India’s efforts to protect critical export sectors from regional instability while strengthening supply chain resilience in overseas markets. Trade experts noted that West Asia remains one of India’s most important destinations for food exports, making uninterrupted logistics connectivity essential for exporters and importers alike.
