The Indian government has notified the rules governing concessional imports of vehicles from the United Kingdom under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), paving the way for the implementation of preferential tariff benefits for eligible automobiles.

The newly issued regulations outline the procedures and eligibility criteria for importing UK-built vehicles at reduced customs duty rates in accordance with the commitments made under the bilateral trade pact. Importers will be required to comply with the prescribed documentation and rules of origin to qualify for the concessions.

The framework is expected to provide greater clarity to automobile manufacturers, importers and dealers while facilitating smoother implementation of the agreement. It also aims to strengthen bilateral trade by enhancing market access for UK vehicle exports to India.

The notification marks another step in operationalising the India–UK CETA, which seeks to expand trade and investment across multiple sectors while promoting closer economic cooperation between the two countries.
