India’s rapidly expanding warehousing sector is fuelling strong growth in the country’s storage solutions industry, now estimated at around ₹7,000 crore, as rising demand from e-commerce, quick commerce, manufacturing and organised retail transforms the way goods are stored and moved across supply chains.

Warehouses are increasingly adopting advanced storage infrastructure such as high-rise pallet racking, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), mezzanine floors and intelligent warehouse management technologies to maximise space utilisation and improve operational efficiency. Rather than expanding horizontally, developers are building taller, high-density facilities capable of handling larger inventory volumes while reducing operating costs.

One of the major beneficiaries of this trend is Godrej Enterprises Group, whose Storage Solutions business operates one of Asia’s largest and most densely equipped storage systems manufacturing facilities at Ambattur in Chennai. Spread across 26 acres, the plant manufactures industrial storage solutions for warehouses, factories and distribution centres across multiple sectors.

Marking 25 years of operations at the Ambattur facility, the company is planning its next phase of expansion around Chennai to cater to growing demand from India’s modern logistics and industrial sectors.

Industry executives say the growth of e-commerce, quick commerce, organised retail, third-party logistics (3PL) providers and domestic manufacturing is driving investments in smarter warehouse infrastructure. Businesses are increasingly prioritising automation, inventory optimisation and faster order fulfilment to meet evolving customer expectations.

The demand is also encouraging wider adoption of automated material handling systems, conveyor networks, robotics and warehouse management software, enabling operators to improve inventory accuracy while reducing manual intervention.

Besides Godrej Enterprises Group, companies such as Nilkamal and Spanco Storage Systems are also benefiting from the expanding market, supplying storage equipment to industries including FMCG, automotive, pharmaceuticals, engineering, retail and manufacturing.

With India’s logistics sector undergoing rapid modernisation and investments in Grade A warehousing continuing to rise, industry observers expect the storage solutions market to maintain strong growth momentum. As supply chains become more sophisticated and delivery timelines continue to shrink, advanced storage systems are expected to play an increasingly critical role in enhancing warehouse productivity, optimising space utilisation and supporting the country’s expanding manufacturing and distribution network.
