The Kandla Seafarers’ Welfare Association, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Shipping, Mercantile Marine Department, Kandla, & Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, commemorated International Seafarers’ Day with great enthusiasm and reverence. This annual celebration pays tribute to the hard work and dedication of seafarers who ensure the seamless delivery of goods across the globe.
The event’s theme, “Navigating the Future – Safety First,” highlighted the significance of safety and preparedness for seafarers in their challenging profession. A unique aspect of this year’s celebration was the focus on yoga, emphasizing its benefits in making seafarers strong, resilient, and alert to the demanding situations they face at sea.
The day commenced with a yoga session, designed to enhance physical and mental well-being, crucial for seafarers who endure long and strenuous journeys. The session was led by an esteemed personality, the Asst. Customs Commissioner & Yoga Instructor, who demonstrated techniques to help seafarers maintain their health and composure while navigating the high seas.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including the Principal Officer of the Mercantile Marine Department, Kandla, the Assistant Commissioner of Customs, the Flotilla Department of DPA, and the Administrator of the Kandla Seafarers’ Welfare Association with others. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to the welfare and safety of seafarers.
In his keynote address, Capt. Santosh Kumar Darokar, PO, MMD, Kandla, emphasized the crucial role of seafarers in the global supply chain and the importance of their well-being. He highlighted that yoga, as an ancient practice, offers modern solutions to enhance the physical strength and mental resilience needed to face the unpredictable challenges at sea.
The Assistant Commissioner of Customs, also serving as the yoga instructor for the day, shared insights into the specific benefits of yoga for seafarers. He explained how regular practice can help mitigate the physical strain and psychological stress associated with long voyages, contributing to overall safety and efficiency in maritime operations.
The Administrator of the Kandla Seafarers’ Welfare Association expressed gratitude to all the seafarers who participated and stakeholders for making the event a great success. He reiterated the association’s commitment to providing continuous support and resources for the welfare of seafarers. Additionally, complimentary gifts were distributed to all seafarers visiting the Seafarers’ Centre as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
The celebration of International Seafarers’ Day at Kandla concluded with a pledge to uphold the principles of safety, well-being, resilience, and most importantly yoga, ensuring that seafarers remain the steadfast navigators of the future.
