Maersk has inaugurated its 6th dedicated rail rake in India on 7 October, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expanding inland logistics strategy.

By operating its own rail service in close synergy with APM Terminals, Maersk now maintains full end-to-end control across port, vessel, container, and rail ecosystems under one A.P. Moller – Maersk umbrella. This integration enables the company to offer customers a faster, more economical and environmentally sustainable alternative for inland transportation.

Over the past two decades, Maersk has evolved from operating a few intermodal corridors to becoming one of India’s largest intermodal logistics providers, with a significant share of inland shipments now moved by rail.

This growth is closely aligned with India’s National Rail Plan, which aims to increase the share of rail freight from 27% today to 45% by 2030 in support of a more efficient national logistics network.

“As we expand our inland footprint, we are unlocking new trade opportunities and delivering true end-to-end reliability,” the company noted, adding that this solution is tailor-made for local manufacturers, global customers, and importers seeking faster inland connectivity and stronger ICD integration.

With India’s intermodal future accelerating, Maersk is laying the tracks for the next phase of growth in sustainable logistics.
