Japanese logistics provider Seino Holdings is entering a 50:50 joint venture with Mahindra Logistics in India to provide Japanese automotive customers with logistics services for finished vehicles, and parts warehousing and transport.

Seino MLL Logistics will provide a range of warehousing and transport services supported by digital technologies that will also be available to non-automotive companies.

Seino said that working with Mahindra Logistics’ strong network in India it could deliver optimised services and extend its reach with customers in the country, with a strong focus on technology, operations, process innovation and sustainability. Seino said there is continued growth for Japan-based OEMs and automotive parts manufacturers in India.

“Through this partnership, we will offer comprehensive logistics solutions supported by digitisation, innovation and a customer-centric approach, allowing us to efficiently manage the end-to-end supply chain,” said Yoshitaka Taguchi, CEO, Seino Holdings.

Mahindra Logistics’ managing director and CEO Rampraveen Swaminathan added: “We envision this partnership contributing to the creation of a sustainable Rs. 1,000 crore [$120m] business model over the next five years, further reinforcing the Make in India initiative and fostering local manufacturing and economic growth.”

According to the Society of Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), passenger car sales in India were more than 4.1m in 2023, up +8% on the previous year, and commercial vehicle sales were up 5% at more than 978,000.
