Pacific International Lines (PIL) has successfully shipped a record 95-tonne substation unit to Umm Qasr port in Iraq, marking a milestone in the carrier’s project cargo handling capabilities.

The oversized and heavy-lift cargo was loaded using specialised equipment and handling procedures to ensure safe transportation, underscoring PIL’s expertise in managing complex logistics requirements. The shipment forms part of a power infrastructure project aimed at strengthening electricity distribution capacity in the region.

PIL said the movement highlights its growing focus on project and breakbulk cargo, alongside its core container operations. The company has been expanding its capabilities to support energy, infrastructure and industrial projects across the Middle East and other emerging markets.

Industry observers noted that demand for heavy-lift and project cargo shipments has been rising, driven by investments in power, oil and gas, and infrastructure development. The successful delivery to Umm Qasr further strengthens PIL’s credentials in handling high-value and technically challenging cargoes.
