Port of Koper reported higher container traffic during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting continued growth in cargo activity and strengthening its role as a key logistics gateway in Central and Eastern Europe.

The port recorded a 9 per cent increase in container throughput during the January–March period compared with the same quarter last year. Rising cargo demand, improved hinterland connectivity, and steady trade flows contributed to the stronger performance.

Port officials said container growth was supported by increased volumes moving through regional supply chains, including shipments linked to manufacturing, automotive, retail, and consumer goods sectors. The port continues to benefit from its strategic location and rail connectivity to inland European markets.

Industry analysts noted that the Port of Koper has been investing in infrastructure upgrades, terminal efficiency improvements, and digital logistics solutions to accommodate growing cargo volumes and strengthen operational capacity. Enhanced rail freight integration has also helped support faster inland cargo distribution.

The positive container performance comes amid broader efforts by European ports to improve resilience and manage shifting trade patterns influenced by global supply chain adjustments and evolving shipping routes.

The Port of Koper remains an important maritime and logistics hub for Central Europe, handling a wide range of containerised cargo and supporting regional trade growth through multimodal transport connections.
