    The Port of Savannah has acquired four new electric ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, adding to Ocean Terminal’s fleet of eight Super Post Panamax cranes constructed by Konecranes.

    The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) revealed that once all cranes are commissioned and berth construction is done, the eight STS cranes at Ocean Terminal will be capable of servicing two vessels simultaneously.

    Ed McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer of Georgia Ports, said: “The completion of this project upgrade in 2028 will enable Ocean Terminal to accommodate the largest vessels serving the US East Coast.

    “Our goal is to ensure customers have the future berth capacity for their larger vessels’ first port of calls with the fastest US inland connectivity to compete in world markets.”

    Susan Gardner, Vice President of Operations at Georgia Ports, added: “We want our ocean carrier customers to see us as the port they can bring their ships and make up valuable time in their sailing schedule using our big ship berths.

    “Our crane productivity and 24-hour rail transit to inland markets is industry-leading.”

    Recently, GPA reported that the Port of Savannah can now get Indian cargo to moving markets up to eight days faster.
