Air cargo volumes at Frankfurt Airport have recorded growth despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East, supported by the return of “preighters” — passenger aircraft temporarily converted for cargo operations.

According to industry data, the reintroduction of preighters has added significant capacity to the market, helping offset disruptions caused by geopolitical instability and route adjustments linked to the regional conflict. Airlines have increasingly redeployed these aircraft to manage fluctuating demand and maintain cargo flows.

The recovery in cargo volumes also reflects steady demand from key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, e-commerce, and high-value industrial goods. Frankfurt, one of Europe’s leading air freight hubs, continues to play a critical role in connecting global supply chains.

Logistics experts note that while the Middle East situation has led to longer flight paths and higher operating costs, the additional lift provided by preighters has helped stabilise capacity and prevent major bottlenecks.

The development highlights the aviation sector’s adaptability, with carriers leveraging flexible fleet strategies to navigate disruptions and sustain cargo operations amid uncertain global conditions.
