In a major milestone for India’s maritime sector, PSA Mumbai, located at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, has successfully welcomed the Damietta Express, one of the world’s largest container vessels.

Operated by global shipping major Hapag-Lloyd, the 24,000 TEU-class vessel marks a significant step forward in handling ultra-large container ships at India’s largest container terminal. The arrival highlights the terminal’s enhanced infrastructure, including one of the world’s longest and deepest berths capable of accommodating next-generation mega vessels.

The call by Damietta Express demonstrates PSA Mumbai’s growing role as a strategic gateway for global trade, strengthening connectivity between India and major international shipping routes. Industry stakeholders say the development will boost operational efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and further position Jawaharlal Nehru Port as a key hub in the global maritime network.

Officials noted that the successful berthing of such a large vessel underscores the terminal’s readiness to support the increasing scale of global container shipping while reinforcing India’s ambitions to expand its footprint in international logistics and maritime trade.
