The Port of Rijeka has taken delivery of new container cranes, part of its ongoing efforts to modernise operations and increase cargo handling efficiency. The new equipment is expected to enhance the port’s capacity for container and general cargo operations, supporting both regional and international trade flows.

Port authorities said the cranes feature advanced automation and energy-efficient technology, allowing for faster loading and unloading of vessels while reducing operational costs and environmental impact. The addition comes amid growing cargo volumes in the Adriatic region, as Rijeka strengthens its position as a key gateway to Central and Eastern Europe.

The upgraded infrastructure is also expected to attract larger container vessels and improve turnaround times, helping shipping lines optimise schedules and expand services through the port. Officials highlighted that the investment aligns with Rijeka’s long-term strategy to enhance competitiveness, streamline logistics operations, and support sustainable growth in maritime trade.

With the new cranes in operation, the Port of Rijeka is better positioned to handle rising demand, maintain service reliability, and reinforce its role as a modern, high-capacity hub in the Adriatic Sea.
