India’s seafood exports have crossed ₹72,325.82 crore in FY26, driven by strong demand for shrimp and continued diversification into new international markets.
According to trade data and industry estimates, shrimp remains the dominant contributor to export growth, supported by robust demand from key markets such as the United States, China, and the European Union. Improved aquaculture practices, better cold-chain infrastructure, and value-added processing have also supported higher shipment volumes and realisations.
Exporters note that diversification into emerging markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America has helped cushion volatility in traditional demand centres. Processed and ready-to-eat seafood products are also gaining traction, contributing to higher value exports.
Industry stakeholders say the milestone reflects India’s strengthening position in the global seafood supply chain, even as exporters continue to navigate challenges such as freight cost fluctuations, compliance requirements, and evolving sustainability standards in key importing regions.
Officials expect the growth momentum to continue, supported by ongoing investments in aquaculture productivity, quality certification, and export infrastructure.
