India has taken swift and coordinated measures to safeguard its maritime trade amid ongoing disruptions in West Asia, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

The government has been closely monitoring developments in key shipping corridors and has worked with stakeholders to ensure the continuity of cargo movement. Measures include enhanced coordination with shipping lines, port authorities, and security agencies to mitigate risks and maintain operational stability.

Officials indicated that steps have been taken to support vessels navigating high-risk zones, including facilitation of alternative routes and efforts to manage rising logistics and insurance costs linked to the crisis.

The minister highlighted that India’s ports and maritime infrastructure remain fully operational, with contingency plans in place to handle any disruptions. Authorities are also focusing on improving real-time information sharing to help industry players make informed decisions.

Industry stakeholders note that the government’s proactive approach has helped maintain trade flows despite challenges such as rerouting, higher freight rates, and delays caused by geopolitical tensions.

The developments underscore India’s emphasis on ensuring supply chain resilience and protecting its trade interests, particularly at a time when global shipping networks are under strain.
