Synergy Marine Group has marked the addition of MAERSK FINISTERRE, a 5,915 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessel, under the technical management of Synergy Pacific Pvt. Ltd., the vessel’s DOC holder.

Owned by NKS Canopus, part of the Nissen Kaiun Singapore Group, and chartered to Maersk, the vessel represents the sector’s accelerating transition toward alternative marine fuels and lower-emission operations.

The name Finisterre is derived from the Latin finis terrae, meaning “end of the earth,” historically linked to Cape Finisterre, once regarded as the westernmost edge of the known world. In today’s maritime context, the name symbolises the industry’s movement toward new operational frontiers, including the adoption of alternative fuels.

MAERSK FINISTERRE is equipped with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system, enabling it to operate on both conventional marine fuels and methanol. When powered by green methanol sourced from sustainable pathways, vessels of this class have the potential to significantly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels.

However, the effective and safe utilisation of alternative fuel systems extends beyond vessel design. It requires disciplined fuel handling procedures, comprehensive crew familiarisation, structured risk management protocols, and close coordination between ship and shore-based teams to ensure operational reliability and safety.

Synergy Marine Group extended its appreciation to Capt. Pushkar Julka, Chief Engineer Rajendra Behera, and the entire onboard team, wishing them fair seas and safe, dependable operations.

As shipowners continue investing in next-generation tonnage, the focus remains firmly on operational readiness — translating advanced alternative fuel capability into consistent, high-performance operations at sea.
